Origin and geology

Like calcite, aragonite consists of calcium carbonate, but differs in its crystal structure. While the crystal system of calcite is trigonal, that of aragonite is rhombic. Aragonite crystals are usually long and acicular, clusters of acicular aragonite crystals are also known as frost work.
